Minority Members of Parliament today marched to the Ghana Police Headquarters in Accra to petition the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over what they describe as an unacceptable delay in declaring the parliamentary election results for the Ablekuma North constituency.
Led by Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh Dompreh, the MPs expressed frustration with the Electoral Commission’s failure to announce the results several months after the 2024 general elections, calling the situation a constitutional breach.
Addressing the media at the Police Headquarters, Annoh Dompreh appealed to the police to ensure the Electoral Commission (EC) is protected and able to carry out its duties without intimidation or obstruction.
“The absence of a declared MP for Ablekuma North constitutes a serious violation of the constitutional right to representation guaranteed under the 1992 Constitution,” he stated.
He emphasized that the prolonged silence from the EC undermines public trust in the electoral process and leaves the people of Ablekuma North without representation in Parliament.
The Minority’s action comes amid increasing public concern about transparency and accountability in the aftermath of the 2024 elections. The MPs are demanding that the EC, with support from the police, immediately declare the results to restore confidence and uphold the democratic rights of the constituents.
