Minority rejects Lands Minister-designate approval over refusal to apologize to Akufo-Addo

The Minority in Parliament has vehemently opposed the approval of Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as the Minister-Designate for Lands and Natural Resources.

This follows Lands Minister-Designate‘s refusal to retract or apologize for comments he made after former President Akufo-Addo’s final State of the Nation Address on January 3, 2025.

Appearing before the Appointment Committee, Armah-Kofi Buah acknowledged that his remarks were harsh but claimed they weren’t intended to offend former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Instead, the Lands Minister-Designate said they reflected the circumstances at the time. He declined to issue a retraction or apology, citing his right to free speech

Meanwhile, the Appointments Committee has recommended Armah-Kofi Buah’s approval by a majority decision.

This sets the stage for further parliamentary debate, with the Minority pushing for accountability and the Majority advocating for his confirmation.

The Minority’s stance is clear: they want Armah-Kofi Buah to take responsibility for his words and show respect for the office of the President.
