Minority reshuffle: NDC leadership could have done better – Political Analyst

A political analyst and a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Jonathan Asante-Otchere says the leaders of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) erred in changing the leadership of the Minority caucus without consulting relevant stakeholders.

Jonathan Asante-Otchere, however, believes the decision is in the uttermost interest of the party aiming to overthrow the governing NPP.

“I think as human beings, probably, they could have done it a little better than they did. It came as a surprise so you would expect that spontaneous reactions from stakeholders who are on the side of Mr. Haruna”

“I think at the early period people thought that it [ the reshuffle] meant a stab in the back of Haruna but if you listen to the communication, I would they would have to appreciate the fact that Haruna has done so well as far as he was the Minority Leader,” he expressed.

Interacting with Annie Afua Ampofo on NewsBeat, the political science lecturer said the misconstruction of the Tamale South MP’s removal as Minority Leader as lack of performance is inaccurate

“They should appreciate something that there’s a particular direction that the NDC wants to churn because when they picked Ato Forson, I realized that the economy will be the campaign agenda and you would need such a personality to hold the strap of the neck of the NPP machinery in terms of the finances and Dr, Bawumia. You can’t take out Ato Forson,” he explained.

In a letter dated January 23, 2023, the NDC’s General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, informed the Speaker of Parliament of changes in its leadership.

Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah replaces James Avedzi as Deputy Minority Leader, while Kwame Agbodza has been appointed Minority Whip, with Ahmed Ibrahim as First Deputy Whip and Comfort Doyo Ghansah as Second Deputy Whip.

Some members of the party’s rank and file have been irritated by the party’s shift in leadership in Parliament.
