Minority reshuffle: Old and new leadership deserve commendation for their conduct – Sam George

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram Constituency, Mr. Samuel George Nartey says the ousted and current Minority Leadership deserve some accolades for their posture in the wake of the unrest which has greeted the change in leadership.

Mr. Nartey said he is optimistic the NDC has what it takes to surmount these immediate challenges.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, the Ningo Prampram lawmaker told Dr. Randy Abbey but for the efforts and intervention of the immediate past and new leadership, hell will break loose in the main opposition party and might have consequences in the next general elections.

“I want to salute the restraint that has been shown by Honourable Haruna Iddrisu and Honourable Muntaka Mubarak because the expectation was that by now the NDC in Tamale and Asawaase would be up in flames”

“We have seen comments that have been made — very managed and they have really really (sic) rained in, obviously, their very strong and passionate following to make their case without rocking the fortunes of the NDC and that for me is critical,” he said.

Their conduct, according to Mr. Sam George, “means these individuals irrespective of how they may feel slighted or not, justified or not, still put the forward match of the NDC to salvage this country in the 2024 polls ahead of any persona; misgivings or challenges they may have. And that for me is very telling and we must celebrate them.”

In like manner, the Ningo Prampram lawmaker lauded the conduct of the new leadership of the Minority caucus.

“I also want to celebrate Ato Forson, Buah, and Abogdza for also holding back their regions and followers from any over-the-commentary that would insinuate or inflame passion in a certain way. We have seen measured statements from people in the Volta region, Central, and Western region, and once again I celebrate them because they have managed their base and following to ensure that this remains a decorous conversation,” Sam George said.

“If people had followed passion and things have gotten inflamed and you saw regions issuing counter statements the damage would be greater than what we are talking about. On that score I must celebrate the individuals involved,” he averred.

In a letter dated January 23, 2023, the NDC’s General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, informed the Speaker of Parliament of changes in its leadership.

Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah replaces James Avedzi as Deputy Minority Leader, while Kwame Agbodza has been appointed Minority Whip, with Ahmed Ibrahim as First Deputy Whip and Comfort Doyo Ghansah as Second Deputy Whip.

Some members of the party’s rank and file have been irritated by the party’s shift in leadership in Parliament.
