Minority shakeup: A storm in a teacup – Sam George

A National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram says the party will bounce back from its current challenges.

Sam George believes the misunderstanding rising from the reshuffle in the Minority leadership in Parliament will be resolved amicably as the party seeks to win power in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The NDC in a letter signed by its General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey on January 23, 2023, informed the Speaker of Parliament of changes in its leadership.

The party named Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah to replace James Avedzi as Deputy Minority Leader, while Kwame Agbodza was appointed Minority Whip, with Ahmed Ibrahim as First Deputy Whip and Comfort Doyo Ghansah as Second Deputy Whip.

Some members of the party’s rank and file have been infuriated by the party’s shift in leadership in Parliament.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV on Thursday, January 26, 2023, the tough-talking legislator described the controversy surrounding the announcement as

He said the party will thrive beyond the struggles although he faulted the NDC’s leadership for excluding stakeholders before arriving at the decision which has angered several faithfuls.

“I believe that it will pass. I believe that the NDC has what it takes to surmount these immediate challenges. I believe and have an absolute trust our leaders, the Council of Elders, the National Executives of the party,… the flagbearer and former president John Dramani Mahama and the parliamentary wing – the Minority caucus,” he told Dr. Randy Abbey.

“I have absolute confidence in the individuals who are involved or principal to the current issue that we will resolve this matter. This matter needs to be resolved within one way or the other in 48 hours. That is my honest and candid view,” the Ningo Prampram MP added.
