Minority’s Posture On Ministerial Vetting Immature & Below Belt – Afenyo Markin

Member of Parliament for Effutu and Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has heavily descended on the Minority in Parliament for their posture toward the vetting of the new ministers nominated by President Akufo-Addo.

The reaction from the Deputy Majority Leader follows a notice served by the Minority Caucus that although they will participate in the vetting process, they will not approve the nominees.

“We in the Minority wish to make it clear that we remain committed to ensuring greater scrutiny and will spare no effort to protect the public purse. In line with this, we are taking part in the vetting process so that at the very minimum, we can scrutinize the President’s decision in bringing up those nominees. However, the Minority will not subscribe to a consensus vote at the level of the Appointments Committee,” parts of the notice served by the minority read.

The posture of the minority is as a result of a directive by the NDC leadership calling on all their members of parliament to reject the new nominees.

Commenting on the posture of the Minority,  Alexander Afenyo-Markin described the decision as political immaturity and below belt.

He further stated that he is disappointed in the minority adding that their posture clearly shows they are not prepared to take over the reigns of government.

“I’m disappointed in the NDC and if they really want to portray themselves as a party ready to take the reigns of government, then they should behave well. What they are doing is way below belt and they are not demonstrating political maturity,” the deputy minority leader noted.
