Black Stars duo Mohammed Kudus and Kamaldeen Sulemana have made a significant joint donation towards the 10th edition of the prestigious Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup, set to take place this Saturday, April 19, 2025, at the iconic Kawokudi Park in Accra.
The West Ham United and Southampton stars have donated a trophy, a set of medals, and a cash prize of GH₵5,000 to the organisers of the tournament. Their contribution will go to the eventual champions of this year’s competition, which has been dubbed the Champions Edition to mark a decade of the annual football gala.
Organisers, speaking on behalf of the tournament’s Chief Patron, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, after whom the competition is named, expressed profound gratitude to the two players. They described the gesture as a heartfelt tribute to the Chief Imam’s enduring legacy of peace, unity, and youth empowerment.
Kudus and Kamaldeen follow in the footsteps of fellow Black Stars players Rashid Sumaila and Andre Ayew, who have previously donated generously in support of the tournament and in honour of the National Chief Imam.
The Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup brings together youth from over 30 Zongo communities across Ghana at the end of each Ramadan to compete in a football gala that promotes peace, social cohesion, and community development. It also serves as a platform for discovering young football talent from Zongo communities.
This year’s landmark edition will feature 15 specially selected communities, including former champions, founding participants, and teams with outstanding records in past tournaments.
Among the participating teams are defending champions and three-time winners Ashaiman, 2019 champions Nima, two-time winners Kasoa (2020 and 2021), and Maamobi, who lifted the trophy in 2018 and 2023.
The other competing communities include Sabon Zongo, Ashale Botwe, Shukura, Adabraka, Tema, Tuba, Nsawam, Anyaa Zongo, Tunga, and Fadama, each of whom has either been part of the founding group or has made immense contributions in previous editions.
The one-day tournament will kick off at 8:30 a.m., with the grand finale scheduled for 5:00 p.m., all set against the vibrant and festive atmosphere of Kawokudi Park.

Over the years, the Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup has grown in stature, becoming one of the most celebrated sporting events within Zongo communities and a key fixture on Ghana’s grassroots football calendar.
Meanwhile, the official sponsors of the competition include Afro Arab Group, Verna Mineral Water, Rush Energy Drink, and NASCO Electronics, who will reward outstanding performers with exciting home appliances.
