The Mobile Money Advocacy Group (MoMAG) has dissociated itself from some unscrupulous mobile money agents who claim to charge an additional 1% fee to support the group’s activities during cash withdrawal transactions.
MoMAG noted that these claims are untrue, and the group does not support or condone any agent found to be exploiting customers by charging unlawful fees.
“We do not support, and will take action against, any agent found to be exploiting customers by charging unlawful fees,” MoMAG stated in a press release.
The group advised subscribers not to pay any additional fees beyond the standard charges automatically deducted by the system.
“Once the system has deducted the official cash-out fee, do not make any further payments to agents,” MoMAG warned.
MoMAG urged customers to report any agent requesting or demanding extra charges to their respective service provider or to MoMAG.
The group is committed to upholding integrity and transparency in mobile financial services and aims to ensure a safe, fair, and trustworthy mobile money ecosystem for all.
“We wish to advise all subscribers that no additional fees should be paid beyond the standard charges automatically deducted by the system,” MoMAG added.
