Some health workers of the Gomoa Potsin Polyclinic including two police officers were assaulted by an irate youth from Gomoa Dominase following the death of a patient who was receiving treatment at the facility.
The deceased patient whose name was given as just Ato, 35, was brought to the Gomoa Potsin Polyclinic after he collapsed in the house at around 5 pm on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
He, however, died this morning at the facility while on life support.
Following the death, some family members including some youth members from the Dominase community stormed the facility to attack the workers.
Some hospital equipment including computers and windows were vandalized.
Two members of a police team that was dispatched to the scene were also assaulted.
The situation caused in patients to become terrified.
An eyewitness, Kojo Poku, who was caring for his wife at the facility described the scene as terrifying in an interview with Metro News.
Medical Superintendent of the facility Dr. (Med) Vlad Nkegbe has condemned the violence and called on the police to have the perpetrators arrested and prosecuted.
