Former Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, Fuseini Issah, has praised the government’s efforts in tackling illegal mining (galamsey), but stresses that more needs to be done to address the issue.
During his submission on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Fuseini Issah acknowledged some progress made in the fight against illegal mining under the leadership of president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“I will admit that there is a certain level of success chalked, where the timidity levels of the water bodies started improving,” he said.
However, he expressed concern that the situation has since deteriorated, emphasizing the need for urgent action.
The former NPP legislator called for a collective effort to combat galamsey, while describing the issue as an “urgency.”
He suggested that the Lands and Natural Resources Minister should work with regional ministers to strategize and take actionable steps, particularly in mining areas.
“I expect that by the time the Minister seats with the Regional ministers, they will strategize some actionable they will get in, particularly the mining areas,” he said.
