The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has told Parliament that significant progress is being made in tackling major security challenges across the country, including armed robbery, land guard activities and policing in mining communities.
Speaking on the floor of the House, the minister said several suspects connected to the Adabraka gold shop robbery in November 2024 had been arrested. He noted that the case remains before the courts and has been adjourned to 8 April 2026.
Mr Muntaka also outlined measures being taken to curb the activities of land guards in the Ga South Municipality and the Accra Tema area.
He said the Ghana Police Service had established Anti Land Guard Units, intensified patrols and intelligence led operations, and strengthened enforcement of the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036).
The minister further announced plans to establish a police station in the Amansie Central District to strengthen security in the area.
He said additional personnel and logistics would also be deployed to improve policing and maintain law and order.
According to him, three newly constructed police stations at Numereso, Apitiso and Tweapease are awaiting commissioning.
He said the facilities are expected to enhance security, reduce crime and help address conflicts linked to mining activities in the district.
Mr Muntaka said the government’s interventions form part of broader efforts to improve public safety and strengthen security operations across the country.
