A 24-year-old mother has been arrested by police in Kasoa for allegedly trying to poison her young son after confronting her boyfriend over cheating allegations.
Mary Tawiah, 24, was picked up by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) under the Kasoa Divisional Police Command after witnesses claimed she attempted to harm her son.
Sources say Mary had been living with her boyfriend, Kobby Nbelenbele, in Teshie until he reportedly abandoned her and their child for another woman in Kasoa. Fueled by anger and betrayal, Mary tracked Kobby and his alleged new partner to the old market area in Kasoa and confronted them.
Eyewitnesses described how the argument quickly escalated. In a moment of rage, Mary is said to have threatened to poison their child, pulling out what looked like a poisonous substance from her bag and trying to feed it to the boy.
Alarmed by the situation, bystanders intervened just in time, preventing what could have turned into a tragedy.
They managed to restrain Mary and handed her over to the police.
Both Mary and Kobby are now in police custody while investigations continue. The child is safe.
