Retired senior police officer, Dr. Benjamin Agordzo, has described his treason trying as a mere witch-hunting.
From the onset, ACP Agordzo told Dr. Randy Abbey in an interview on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Wednesday, October 30, that he “knew it was witch-hunting and I knew I was in for prosecution because they had nothing to prove.”
ACP Agordzo was one of nine individuals charged with conspiring to commit high treason in 2021.
Despite the prosecution presenting 13 witnesses, including members of the Ghana Armed Forces, Dr. Agordzo maintained his innocence.
“I knew from the beginning that there was no way they were going to find any evidence against me because there was nothing.”
He narrated the disparity in treatment, noting that he was the only person prosecuted among a group of professionals, including lawyers, engineers, and professors, who had also supported Dr. Mac-Palm’s medical outreach program.
Dr. Agordzo questioned the fairness of being accused of paying GHS2,000 while others contributed in dollars.
The High Court ultimately convicted six alleged coup plotters, sentencing them to death by hanging.
Those convicted included Donya Kafui, Bright Alan Debrah, Johannes Zikpi, Esther Saan Dekuwine, Ali Solomon, and Sylvester Akanpewon.
However, Dr. Agordzo, Colonel Samuel Kodzo Gameli, and Corporal Seidu Abubakar were acquitted.
