Nana Akomea announces return to Metro Tv’s Good Morning Ghana after long absence

Former Information Minister and senior member of the New Patriotic Party campaign team for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Nana Akomea, has announced he will return to Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana after a long absence.

Mr Akomea made the announcement during a live phone in discussion on Metro TV on May 13, where he engaged host Moro Awudu in a heated exchange over comments made by veteran journalist, Kwesi Pratt Jnr.

The discussion centred on remarks about an alleged assault on a senior member of the opposition New Patriotic Party, linked to the Okaikwei Central constituency.

The issue had been publicly debated after differing accounts emerged about the motive behind the incident, with suggestions ranging from internal party disagreements to a personal dispute.

During the call, Mr Akomea challenged the framing of earlier commentary and defended his interpretation of a news report he had referenced, insisting he had not fabricated information but had relied on published accounts circulating at the time.

He also responded to criticism that he had mischaracterised the incident, maintaining that he was addressing inconsistencies in public narratives about the case involving party figures, including Alhaji Haruna, a vice chairperson in the constituency.

The exchange became more tense when Mr Akomea was questioned on whether he had suggested that some party members should not contest internal positions.

He said his comments had been misinterpreted, explaining that he had only offered personal advice in a private consultation and not acted on instructions from party leadership.

He rejected claims that his remarks were part of any coordinated effort within the campaign of Dr Bawumia, saying his intention was to correct what he described as misleading political narratives.

Responding to the reactions, Mr Kwesi Pratt Jnr reiterated what he had said earlier concerning the conversation he had with Mr Akomea.

He maintained that his comments were not a misrepresentation of what Mr Akomea told him, as the host, Moro Awudu, and Eugene Boakye-Antwi, an aspiring General Secretary and co-panellist on the show, corroborated Mr Pratt’s account, stating that it was neither a malicious attack nor a misconstrued statement by the former Managing News Editor of The Insight newspaper.

At the end of the discussion, Mr Akomea confirmed he would return to the programme on Wednesday, ending speculation about his continued absence from the show following changes in its hosting arrangements after the appointment of former host Dr Randy Abbey as Chief Executive of the Ghana Cocoa Board.

His return sets the stage for what is expected to be another closely watched appearance on Metro Tv’s political talk show, which has become a key platform for national political debate.
