Nana Konadu’s final goodbye: Rawlings family announces funeral plans

The family of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has outlined plans for her final funeral rites.

The funeral is scheduled to take place on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Independence Square in Accra.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, November 18, Oheneba Akwasi Abayie, Otumfuo Akomforehene, said the ceremony would commence at 6 am. with the arrival of the cortege.

He noted that the event is open to the general public.

He said mourners are expected to wear black attire, adding that no special funeral cloth has been designated for the occasion. Security personnel, he indicated, would be deployed to guide attendees to their respective seating areas.

The family emphasised that the November 28 ceremony constitutes the final funeral rite for the former First Lady and that no additional service would be held at any other location.

The arrangement, they explained, is to allow all sympathisers the opportunity to pay their last respects in a single, unified event.

Meanwhile, the Government has announced that a state funeral will be held in her honour in recognition of her contributions to national progress.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the former First Lady of Ghana, died on October 23, 2025, at the age of 76.

She died after a short illness at the Ridge Hospital in Accra. Nana Konadu was the widow of Ghana’s longest-serving leader, Jerry John Rawlings.

She founded the 31st December Movement and played a significant role in Ghana’s political and social development.
