Janet Asana Nabla, the 2024 presidential candidate of the People’s National Party (PNP), has made a controversial claim regarding the recent “Democracy Under Attack” demonstration organized by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM, Nabla alleged that Nana Yaa Jantuah was assigned to receive the protest petition because the National Democratic Congress (NDC) “never wanted her alive.”
The demonstration ended with a petition presented to Nana Yaa Jantuah, a Presidential Staffer representing the Presidency.
Addressing criticism over her role, Nana Yaa Jantuah questioned why the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, criticized her for simply carrying out an official assignment.
She maintained that she was duly mandated by the President to receive the petition and rejected claims that she was not senior enough to represent the government.
“They claimed because I am a nobody, they made their Deputy Women’s Organiser present the petition to me. I am a senior government official,” she said.
“With great respect to you and without prejudice to your presence, to nominate only you to come amounts to disrespecting us as a political party. I’m the leader of the party in Parliament. You have the General Secretary of the party here. You have the Chief of Staff of the flagbearer. We have the Chairman of the Constitutional Affairs Committee of the party,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
