The Member of Parliament for Nanton Constituency, Dr Mohammed Sherif Abdul-Khaliq, has condemned the recent violent clashes in Nanton that led to the death of one person and left others injured.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 6, the legislator described the incident as “unfortunate” and extended his condolences to the bereaved family.
“I am deeply saddened by the unfortunate violent incident that occurred in Nanton. My heartfelt condolences go to the family of Seidu Ibrahim, who tragically lost his life in the disturbances,” Dr Abdul-Khaliq said.
He also wished the injured a speedy recovery, revealing that he had visited them at the hospital.
“Earlier yesterday, I visited the victims at the hospital. Some have been treated and discharged, while the remaining one is responding well to treatment,” he noted.
The Nanton MP appealed to residents to remain calm and allow peace to prevail in the community.
“I appeal to all residents of Nanton to remain calm and allow peace to prevail. Let us not allow this tragic event to divide us as people,” he urged.
Dr Abdul-Khaliq further called on the security agencies to maintain professionalism in their handling of the situation to restore confidence among residents.
“I further urge the security agencies to act with the utmost professionalism to ensure the restoration of peace and to build confidence within our community,” he added.
He noted that unity and development as the way forward for the constituency.

“Together, let us stand united for peace and development in Nanton,” he stated.
The police have since begun investigations into the cause of the disturbances.
