Traders at the Kejetia and Race Course markets in Kumasi have appealed to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to consider Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, Energy Minister, as the running mate for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 general elections.
According to them, Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s achievements, particularly in implementing the Free Senior High School policy, make him an ideal candidate to boost the party’s fortunes in the Ashanti region.
With barely six months to the polls, pressure is mounting on the NPP to select a running mate from the Ashanti region, considered the party’s stronghold.
A recent survey by the National Investigation Bureau puts Dr. Opoku Prempeh ahead of other potential candidates, with over 70% support.
The traders believe Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s selection will bring new dynamics to the NPP’s campaign and bolster the party’s appeal among urban and rural voters.
Political analysts are watching this development closely, as the announcement of the NPP’s running mate looms.
