A senior political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against arrogance in defending their running mate’s appointment.
In a Facebook post on Monday, July 8, Prof Gyampo noted that the party’s fortunes in the 2024 general elections have already been decided by Ghanaians.
He criticized the “shambolic” defense of the running mate’s appointment, saying it only sustains negative discussions.
“We all have weaknesses, and the way to defend ourselves is not to encourage over-zealous people to whitewash us by insisting that there’s no wisdom in the voice of the people,” he wrote.
Prof Gyampo advised that instead of dismissing public concerns, one should “publicly admit and resolve to work on what the people we seek to serve don’t like, even as we tout our strength and competence.”
He added, “You cannot dismiss what the people know, which they don’t like, by extolling what they don’t know, which you think they must like.”
The political scientist offered his “free Political Consultancy” to those who will be speaking in defense, urging them to admit weaknesses and promise to work on them.
