Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on Friday joined ministers and local officials at Nungua Market for the two-day national clean up exercise aimed at clearing debris left behind by the devastating floods.
The Vice President was joined by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey and the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo for the first day of the exercise.
Her participation underscored the government’s call for collective action to restore affected communities and promote environmental cleanliness following the floods.
The nationwide exercise was initiated by President John Dramani Mahama as part of efforts to clear waste and debris left in the aftermath of the disaster, which affected several communities across the country.
Government says the clean up campaign is intended not only to improve sanitation but also to encourage citizens to work together in rebuilding communities and reducing the risk of future flooding.
