National Identification Authority moves to online-only registration in pilot programme

The National Identification Authority (NIA) is set to introduce an online-only registration system at its Greater Accra office and the CAL Bank Centre at Ridge, effective May 5, 2025.

Announcing the move on his Facebook page on Friday, May 2, 2025, acting CEO Wisdom Yayra Koku Deku, stated that it is part of a pilot initiative aimed at streamlining the application process and reducing long queues at registration centres.

“Effective May 5, 2025, the NIA Greater Accra office and the CAL Bank Centre at Ridge will only accept online registration and booking. Simply follow the steps outlined below to obtain your new Ghana card”

“This is a PILOT, and we hope to expand it to all of our centres across the country,” he wrote.

With the latest system, the applicants will be required to register online, providing necessary details and documentation with payments made online and applicants will also participate in a virtual interview.

After completing the online process, applicants will present a QR code at the selected centre for biometric capture.

The NIA also hopes to roll out the system nationwide in the future, with additional 24-hour offices set to be announced in the coming days, all requiring online registration and booking.

“Our 24-hour offices will be announced in the coming days, and all will require online registration and booking”

Authorities say the digital approach is intended to improve efficiency and enhance user experience in obtaining national identification.

“Our long-term goal is to reduce long queues at the various centres”

“Register, pay and interview online before presenting your QR code to the selected center for biometric capture” the CEO accentuated.
