Nations FC climbed to the top of the Premier League table with a convincing 4-1 win over relegated Legon Cities on Monday at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Kelvin Ampoful opened the scoring in the 28th minute, but an own goal by goalkeeper Rabin Ousmane Sanon in the 40th minute saw the teams go into halftime level.
Nations stepped things up in the second half. Emmanuel Annor put them back in front, before Sadiq Alhassan added a third in the 82nd minute. Ampoful then grabbed his second of the game to seal a comfortable win.
The result takes Nations to 57 points, putting them back at the top of the table with three games to go, while Legon Cities suffer demotion to the Division One League.
In other results, Asante Kotoko kept their title hopes alive with a 4-1 victory over Dreams FC. Albert Amoah opened the scoring in the 16th minute and Kwame Poku made it 2-0 not long after.
Jonathan Nemoredeen gave Dreams a lifeline early in the second half, but Poku scored again in the 61st minute to restore Kotoko’s two-goal cushion. Fernando Bassey added a fourth to wrap things up.
Mawuli Wayo was the difference-maker for Hearts of Oak, scoring in the 57th minute to give the Phobians a 1-0 win over Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park. The result extends Hearts’ unbeaten run against Chelsea to 11 matches.
FC Samartex 1996 continued their strong home form with a 2-1 win over Bechem United. Baba Musah and Francis Gyetuah gave them a two-goal lead before Baba Moro Abdulai pulled one back from the penalty spot.
Karela United picked up a massive 3-1 win at home against Medeama SC, climbing out of the relegation zone. Malik Abubakar scored twice, and Ali Alhassan got the third. Medeama’s only goal came from Godknows Dzakpasu.
Vision FC boosted their survival hopes with a 2-0 win over fellow strugglers Young Apostles FC. Second-half goals from Edmond Asante and Emmanuel Kyei Baffour made the difference in a crucial clash.
Basake Holy Stars and Heart of Lions played out a goalless draw at the AAK Ampain Arena. Holy Stars had a chance to steal all three points late on, but Prince Tweneboah missed a penalty.
Accra Lions came out on top in an exciting 8-goal thriller, beating Aduana FC 5-3. Lucky Nwafor and Salman Faris Tahiru both bagged a brace for the home side, while Musa Hamazata added another to complete the tally.
Emmanuel Peprah scored twice for Aduana, with Emmanuel Marfo also on target, but the visitors couldn’t keep up in a game full of chances and goals.
