NDC accuses EC of manipulating limited voter registration figures

The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of “deliberate misrepresentation” over voter registration figures, amid claims of errors in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of Elections and IT says his office has taken a screenshot of the EC’s website showing incorrect figures, which the commission later deleted.

Citing an instance. Dr. Omane Boamah said “Electoral Commission of Ghana, 19,267 must be the total registered NOT 25,287 for Day 2. Similarly Day 3 should be 48,616 and not 43,417”, wondering “Who is adding the figures at the headquarters of the Electoral Commission of Ghana?”

The party claims the errors are not just mistakes, but a deliberate attempt to manipulate the figures.

The EC has not commented on the allegations, but the NDC says it will not tolerate any attempts to rig the voter registration process. The party has warned the EC and its “collaborators” to desist from any further manipulation, saying “we have run out of patience”.

The controversy comes amid concerns over the security of the voter registration process, after components of Biometric Voter Registration kits were stolen from the EC’s headquarters under CCTV surveillance.

The NDC has been critical of the EC’s handling of the 2020 presidential election, which it claims was marred by errors and manipulation. The party says it will continue to monitor the voter registration process to ensure its integrity.
