NDC accuses NIA of registering foreigners in Pusiga Constituency

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Pusiga Constituency of the Upper East Region has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Electoral Commission (EC), and the National Identification Authority (NIA) of attempting to register foreigners in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

The constituency shares borders with Burkina Faso and Togo, and the NDC claims that the NPP is busing in Burkinabes to register for the exercise.

The party also alleges that the NIA has opened a registration process in the area to help these foreigners obtain NIA cards and voter identification cards.

One EC officer has been arrested in the area for attempting to aid foreigners in registering with fake NIA cards.

At a press conference, Atimbila Alale, the NDC communication officer for the area, called on Ghanaians to speak out against any attempts to manipulate the electoral process. He urged the EC, NIA, and NPP to put a stop to these activities, warning that they endangered Ghana’s democracy.
