NDC benefits from Kevin Taylor but silences NPP critics – Sylvester Tetteh

Former Member of Parliament for Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro, Sylvester Tetteh, has accused the National Democratic Congress of quietly benefitting from the abrasive style of US-based commentator Kevin Taylor while clamping down on criticism from the New Patriotic Party.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana with host Moro Awudu, Mr Tetteh argued that the governing party has weaponised free speech against its opponents, insisting that members of the NPP have been unfairly targeted in recent months.

“The NDC is a beneficiary of Kevin Taylor’s assault on people. This is the lowest form of democracy this country has experienced,” the former National Youth Authority boss said.

Mr Tetteh’s remarks come against the backdrop of the planned “Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna” protest by the NPP Youth Wing. The march, which begins at the Obra Spot near Kwame Nkrumah Circle, is intended to draw attention to what the group calls harassment, intimidation and abuse of power by state institutions.

While Mr Tetteh questioned why NPP voices are sanctioned while Taylor’s harsh commentary goes unchecked, Jirapa MP Cletus Seidu Dapilah rejected the claim that the broadcaster is being shielded by the government.

“Our government is not protecting Kevin Taylor. He is not even a member of the NDC,” Mr Dapilah said.
