NDC vows to block transfer of ‘alien’ voters in Awutu Senya West

The Awutu Senya West branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has vowed to impede the transfer of non-resident voters to the constituency.

The main opposition party disclosed during a press conference on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

According to the party, it has received signals that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) intends to transfer approximately 5,000 non-resident voters to the constituency to maximize its chances in the parliamentary elections.

The NDC alleges that students from public senior high schools and private institutions, including Ideal College, owned by Joseph Kobina Essibu, a former treasurer of the Central Regional branch of the NPP, have been targeted for the transfer.

This move is aimed at enhancing the winning chances of Eugene Kofi Bentum Arhin, Director of Communications at the Presidency, in the 2024 parliamentary elections, according to the NDC.C

The NDC Central Regional executives vowed to thwart any such attempts and cautioned the NPP to abandon the idea.

They also warned parents to advise their children against transferring their votes to the constituency, stating that they would employ all means possible to prevent it.
