The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Guan Constituency, Fred Kwesi Agbenyo, has welcomed the official creation of the constituency under Constitutional Instrument 138.
However, Agbenyo criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for delaying the process, which he said had denied the people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, and Likpe (SALL) their constitutional rights for representation in Parliament.
“The Guan constituency has suffered enough over the past six years… The EC and the NPP Government could have done the helpless and alienated people of SALL good by making conscious attempts to inform the Ghanaian public and stakeholders of democracy,” he said.
He noted that despite the constituency’s official creation, the EC and NPP had failed to adequately publicize the development, leading to misrepresentations and hopelessness among the people.
Fred Agbenyo revealed that the Guan district was inaugurated on October 15, 2021, while the Guan constituency was created on November 30, 2023, through CI 138.
He commended civil societies, media, and the Ghanaian public for their support and singled out Nananom, the Youth of SALL, and Professor Kweku Azar for their contributions.
“The Guan district and constituency have come to stay, and SALL shall see progress and development once again,” Agbenyo concluded.
