The Minister of Communications, Samuel Nartey George, has announced that telecommunications companies will implement new data bundle changes starting July.
The changes include a 10% increase in data offerings for Airtel Tigo Ghana and Telecel, and a 15% increase for MTN.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, June 10, Sam George emphasized his commitment to an engagement-led style of leadership, noting that he cannot unilaterally order telcos to reduce data prices.
The Communications Minister acknowledged the challenges of recovering from years of mismanagement.
“The recovery of 8 years of mismanagement can’t be completed in four months.”
Meanwhile, Sam George has cautioned that telecommunications companies who fail to implement increase in data packages will face sanctions.
