Tension gripped Salaga Hospital on Wednesday after a newborn baby girl with breathing difficulties was reported missing from the facility less than 24 hours after delivery.
Sources at the hospital tell Metro TV the two babies were delivered at the facility on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. One of the infants, a girl, was in distress and placed in an incubator for treatment due to breathing problems.
Family members were initially turned away from seeing the baby because of her condition.
The situation took a disturbing turn when the mother, was moved to the maternity ward without the child. Alarmed, relatives sent her back to the labour ward to check on the infant, only to discover the baby had vanished.
A frantic search of the entire facility yielded nothing.
The family reported the matter to police. Officers from the Salaga Police Station were called in and immediately sealed all hospital exits, but no one was found leaving with a child.
Police have arrested and granted bail to two senior hospital officials as part of ongoing investigations. Their identities have not yet been released.
The Savannah Regional Director for Health is expected in Salaga for an emergency meeting with hospital management and staff. He is scheduled to address the press after the meeting.
Salaga Municipal Hospital has not issued a public statement on the incident. Police say investigations are ongoing and all leads are being pursued.
The family of the missing infant is demanding answers and urgent action from authorities.
