Newmont, Gov’t partner to rebuild Sunyani–Ntotroso–Acherensua Highway

Newmont Ghana has joined forces with the Government of Ghana to rehabilitate the 46-kilometre Sunyani to Ntotroso to Acherensua highway, a project expected to improve safety and open up economic opportunities across the Bono region.

The company recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Roads and Highways to begin work on the long-awaited upgrade. According to Newmont, the contractor is already mobilising equipment to start construction.

The mining firm said the initiative reflects its commitment to improving infrastructure in the communities where it operates. Over the years, Newmont has supported the development of the Ntotroso to Kenyasi and Hwediem to Kenyasi roads, as well as internal routes in Wamahinso, Gyedu, and the Kenyasi No. 1 and No. 2 communities.

“These projects connect people, support local economies, and make travel safer,” the company said in a statement. “Our partnership with government on this highway rehabilitation is another step in creating value and improving lives through sustainable and responsible mining.”

The project is expected to ease travel for thousands of commuters and businesses in the Ahafo and Bono regions, strengthening links between mining communities and the regional capital.
