Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, says if he wins power, his administration will launch a full-scale probe into the 12,000 kilometers of roads supposedly constructed by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) headed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Addressing chiefs and people of Ngleshie Amanfrom in the Greater Accra Region on Sunday, Mahama said despite the government’s claims, surprisingly every constituency he visits, the chiefs are complaining of poor road networks.
“Everywhere I go, every traditional ruler who has spoken has complained about the poor road network,” Mahama stated.
John Mahama accused President Nana Akufo-Addo of prioritizing the development of his hometown over the rest of the country – a practice he said his administration would not repeat.
“The NPP say in 8 years of [President] Kufuor they did three thousand and something kilometers of roads. In eight years of NDC, we did 4,700km, and they alone are saying they have constructed 12,000km of roads. And I’m asking, where are those roads? Because everywhere I go, the main complaint is about the road network. So, I don’t know… well, I have not been to Abuakwa yet, and Kyebi, where the president [Nana Akufo-Addo] comes from, but I hear that there, the roads are very good. Maybe, that is where the 12,000km of roads are,” the NDC flagbearer stated.
“Everywhere else in Ghana, the roads are very terrible,” Mahama exclaimed.
He stated categorically that his government will audit all those roads the NPP claims to have constructed.
“When we come to power, the new roads they said they have done, we will audit them to find out where the money that has been paid for 12,000km of roads has gone,” Mahama said.
