NFB Ghana partners Fashion Forum Africa to promote Cultural Heritage through fashion

The National Folklore Board (NFB) Ghana has partnered with Fashion Forum Africa (FFA) to promote Ghana’s rich cultural heritage through fashion.

The partnership, dubbed “Fashion Meets Folklore,” aims to explore how traditional narratives and symbols influence contemporary design while advocating for sustainability in textiles and fashion.

According to Mrs Bernice Ann Deh-Kumah, Executive Director of NFB Ghana, “This partnership reflects our shared vision of safeguarding Ghanaian folklore while driving innovation in the fashion and textiles industry.”

“We aim to bridge the gap between tradition and modernity, creating a legacy that benefits both the present and the future,” she added.

The partnership’s first initiative will debut in March 2025 during Ghana Culture Month, with a retrospective honouring the late Kofi Ansah, Ghana’s celebrated master of fashion.

Makeba Nana Pokua Boateng, Founder of Fashion Forum Africa, noted that the collaboration celebrates Ghana’s heritage while addressing pressing challenges in sustainable fashion.

“As we honour Kofi Ansah’s extraordinary contributions, we are reminded of the power of creativity to connect cultures and inspire progress,” she said.

The event will target women entrepreneurs, start-ups, and cottage industries across all 16 regions, driving inclusivity and economic growth in the creative sector.
