NHIA releases additional GHC 135.6 million to healthcare providers

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has released an additional GHC 135.6 million to healthcare providers across the country, bringing the total amount disbursed in recent months to GHC 435.6 million.

A statement signed by Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, Acting Chief Executive of NHIA, said the funding is aimed at settling outstanding claims for February and March 2024, and closing the gap between higher and lower tier facility payments.

“This additional funding of GHC 135.6 million was released in July, following an earlier release of GHC 300 million by the Authority to mix tier health facilities across the country,” the statement read.

Dr. Aboagye expressed appreciation for the critical role healthcare providers play in the success of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and assured of the NHIA’s commitment to maintaining a robust partnership with facilities without compromising on illegal charges.

“We thank all healthcare providers for their continued dedication and support in providing excellent healthcare services to our citizens,” he said.

“The NHIA will continue to engage with stakeholders to address any concerns and work towards a sustainable and efficient healthcare system.” the statement concluded.
