The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed GH¢256,489,525.15 to credentialed healthcare providers nationwide, in reimbursement for claims submitted under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The funds, paid in two tranches on July 29 and August 3, 2026, mainly covered services rendered to NHIS members between January and June 2026. This follows an earlier disbursement of GH¢219,838,955.41 on July 1 for claims up to May, as part of Executive Management’s resolve to reimburse providers on a monthly basis.
Of the total payment, private healthcare providers received GH¢113,858,660.46 (44.39%), public providers received GH¢97,344,522.49 (37.95%), while mission providers received GH¢45,286,342.20 (17.66%).
The latest disbursement brings NHIA’s total payments for 2026 to approximately GH¢1.46 billion, underscoring the Authority’s commitment to the timely settlement of legitimate claims and uninterrupted healthcare delivery across the country.
The Chief Executive of NHIA, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, said timely reimbursement remains critical to the effective functioning of the NHIS, as it enables healthcare facilities to procure medicines and supplies, sustain essential services, and continue serving members without disruption.
“Timely claims payment strengthens the healthcare delivery system, improves patient outcomes, and reinforces public confidence in the NHIS,” Dr Bampoe said.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to processing and paying eligible claims promptly, in support of accessible and affordable healthcare for all NHIS members.
