NHIA strengthens cybersecurity vigilance

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in partnership with a private firm, CyberHawk is to upgrade the Authority’s digital infrastructure to safeguard it from global cybersecurity threats.

The CyberHawk team led by the Project Manager, Mr. Eyal Barasti conducted a thorough examination of the NHIA’s digital infrastructure and uncovered the systems’ vulnerability to cybersecurity threats.

The NHIA’s Operations Deputy Chief Executive, Dr. Senanu Kwesi Djokoto received the CyberHawk team’s findings and commended the organization for the recommendations.

“This is more than an orientation for all of us. Today, we are bringing into full view the entire scope of this project and what is expected thereafter. Following our internal IT review, this initiative is very much in order. We want to use this opportunity to thank our partners who have worked to bring this to realization,” he stated.

The Director of Management Information Systems (MIS), Mr. Kaleo-Bioh Vitus Gundona, emphasized the Authority’s commitment to strengthening its cybersecurity posture.

“We have invested in cybersecurity with CyberHawk to bring us up to speed on their findings and how we can address identified loopholes,” he explained.

Also speaking at the meeting, Senior Manager at the MIS Directorate, Mr. Ebenezer Hooper, noted that the Authority is making significant progress in safeguarding its digital systems.

“Our main focus is to design, implement and manage information security management systems that ensure the protection of NHIS digital technologies, processes and data. We are currently operating at over 75 percent, and with deeper engagement, we are heading toward 90 percent,” he said.

Presenting on behalf of CyberHawk, Project Manager Mr. Eyal Barasti outlined the objectives of the collaboration.

“The goal of this partnership is to enhance NHIA’s cybersecurity resilience and operational efficiency by deploying a hybrid Security Operations Centre, assessing existing security measures, and implementing critical IT services,” he noted.

In their closing remarks, the CyberHawk team expressed appreciation for the opportunity to support the Authority’s cybersecurity advancement.

Dr. Djokoto, delivering closing remarks on behalf of NHIA, reiterated the Authority’s commitment to maintaining high standards.

“We are grateful to the NHIA team and CyberHawk for this collaboration. We are focused on keeping high standards. The team must now get to work and undertake the necessary on-the-job training to ensure successful implementation,” he stated.

The collaboration forms part of NHIA’s broader efforts to enhance digital security, improve operational efficiency, and safeguard sensitive data.
