A Nigerian trader has been sentenced to seven years in prison after an Accra Circuit Court found her guilty of human trafficking and immigration related offences.
Ada Peace was convicted following an operation by the Ghana Immigration Service that led to the rescue of two victims, aged 21 and 13.
According to immigration officials, the victims were allegedly lured from Nigeria to Ghana with promises of employment. Investigators said they were instead subjected to sexual exploitation and forced into prostitution.
The Ghana Immigration Service said the case formed part of its ongoing efforts to tackle human trafficking and protect vulnerable people from abuse and exploitation.
Officials described the court’s ruling as a significant step in the fight against human trafficking, migrant smuggling and related crimes.
The service said it remains committed to identifying and prosecuting offenders while strengthening measures to prevent the exploitation of vulnerable persons.
The rescued victims have since been removed from the alleged trafficking network and are receiving the necessary support, authorities said.
