President John Dramani Mahama has warned ministers, chief executives, board members and other political appointees that indiscipline, poor performance and conduct that undermines government will not be tolerated.
The warning was contained in a notice issued by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, as the administration moves ahead with further changes to its political and institutional leadership.
The notice follows recent ministerial changes and the dissolution of some government boards, with further changes involving chief executives expected in the coming days.
According to the Secretary to the President, the changes form part of President Mahama’s effort to strengthen leadership across government, improve coordination and ensure that political appointees remain aligned with the government’s policies and priorities.
The President expects ministers, deputy ministers, chief executives, board members and other appointees to perform their duties with integrity, diligence, humility and respect for established administrative procedures, the notice said.
It cautioned that conduct capable of weakening government cohesion, undermining institutional authority or obstructing the effective implementation of government policy would not be accepted.
The notice also reminded political appointees that holding public office was a privilege and an opportunity to serve the Ghanaian people, stressing that performance would remain a key consideration in assessing their continued stay in office.
“The President will take any further action necessary to safeguard the integrity, effectiveness and responsiveness of his Administration,” the statement said.
The warning comes as the government continues to reorganise key institutions and leadership positions, signalling that ministers and other appointees will be expected to demonstrate results while maintaining discipline and adherence to government directives.
The Secretary to the President urged all appointees to cooperate and remain committed to the government’s agenda as the administration works to fulfil its mandate and improve the lives of Ghanaians.
