No Winners, No Losers: Asantehene delivers Bawku peace roadmap

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has presented the Bawku Mediation Report to President John Dramani Mahama, marking a major step in efforts to end the long-running conflict in the area.

The report was handed over at a meeting at Jubilee House in Accra, attended by government and security officials, traditional leaders, religious figures and other key stakeholders. The gathering reflected a shared resolve to find a lasting solution to the conflict, which has disrupted lives and stalled development in Bawku for years.

Addressing the meeting, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II appealed to all sides in the conflict to see themselves as one family. He urged them to put differences aside, embrace peace and work together for the good of the community and the nation.

President Mahama received the report and thanked the Asantehene and his mediation team for their sustained efforts. He stressed that the process was not about declaring winners or losers, but about healing divisions and restoring peace.

“The outcome of the report is not a winner or a loser issue, but how to reconcile the two factions for peace,” the President said. He noted that Bawku has the potential to become one of Ghana’s most vibrant cities, but persistent conflict has held it back.

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to peace and security across the country. He said conflict undermines development and pledged that the Ministry would play its part in protecting lives, maintaining order and helping Bawku regain stability and progress.

The Bawku conflict has remained a major concern for successive governments and community leaders. The submission of the mediation report now raises hopes that sustained dialogue, reconciliation and coordinated action can finally bring peace and open the door to development in the area.
