Senior statesman and New Patriotic Party stalwart Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has pushed back strongly against claims that he is not a founding member of the party, insisting that no one has the authority to sack him from the NPP.
Speaking in an interview with Desmond Okraku Danso on Metro Tv’s Good Afternoon Show, Dr Tamakloe said the debate about who qualifies as a founding member misses the bigger issue of the party’s current direction.
He explained that when the NPP was officially registered, only four people signed the documents at the Registrar General’s Department, even though many others who played key roles were later issued membership cards as founding members.
According to him, even if anyone questions his founding status, it does not take away his right to speak when he believes the party is going astray. He warned that the NPP is facing serious internal challenges that could damage its future if they are not addressed with honesty and care.
“What is happening in the party now is worrying,” he said, adding that the NPP is bleeding and risks total destruction if members refuse to confront uncomfortable truths.
Dr Tamakloe also rejected suggestions attributed to a party general secretary that he has distanced himself from the NPP because President John Mahama is now in office. He described the claim as false and challenged the party official to produce evidence to back it.
He stressed that he has never said he is no longer a member of the NPP and repeated his long held position that nobody can force him out of the party he helped build.
Dr Tamakloe said he will continue to speak out, regardless of criticism, because he believes silence in the face of what he sees as wrongdoing would be a betrayal of the party’s founding principles.
