The General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, Brigadier General Franklin Kwesi Worlanyo Agbebo, has urged Ghanaian troops undergoing counter insurgency training to stay alert and proactive in tackling emerging security threats.
Speaking at the opening of Exercise Storm Shield at the 11 Mechanised Battalion in Bazua, he said security personnel must remain ahead of potential threats in order to defeat them.
The ten day exercise is being held in the Upper East and Bono regions to equip troops with the skills and mindset needed to combat terrorism and strengthen national security. The training programme is expected to end on 20 May 2026.
Brigadier General Agbebo said the harsh weather conditions in the Upper East Region would help prepare soldiers for difficult operational environments.
He encouraged the troops to use the exercise to build both physical and mental resilience.
“You need to be ahead of the threats in order to conquer them. In counter insurgency, it is as much in the mind as it is on the ground,” he said.
