Notorious robber ‘Lifer’ sentenced to 30 years in prison

A man identified as Frank Owusu, popularly known as “Lifer,” has been sentenced to 30 years in prison with hard labour for armed robbery, following his arrest in connection with a violent attack at Assin Praso in the Central Region.

According to the Central North Regional Police Command, Owusu broke into the residence of a woman at Assin Praso on March 29, 2025, and at gunpoint robbed her of GH¢1,950 and other personal belongings. He fled the scene after abandoning a locally manufactured pistol but was later identified and placed on the police wanted list.

After months on the run, police arrested Owusu on September 27, 2025, at his hideout in Assin Nyankomase. He was positively identified by the victim and charged.

On October 1, 2025, he appeared before the Nsuaem Kyekyewere Circuit Court, presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo Yartey, where he pleaded guilty to armed robbery and possession of a firearm without authority. The court sentenced him to two months’ imprisonment for unlawful possession of a firearm and 30 years for robbery, to run concurrently.

The convict has since been transferred to the Ankaful Prisons to begin serving his custodial term.

In a statement, the Central North Regional Police Command assured the public of its resolve to pursue all armed robbery cases to their logical conclusion and ensure offenders face the full rigours of the law.
