The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed deep concern and shock following the remand of its Bono Regional Chairman, Mr. Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, by the Adenta Circuit Court to the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).
In a statement issued by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party emphasized that the detention could extend for months, potentially over a year, depending on the court proceedings. “If the case travels to six months, one year, or longer, it means that Mr. Kwame Baffoe will continue to be in NIB custody,” the statement noted.
The party described the arrest as an attack not just on Abronye DC but on all Ghanaians who believe in freedom, justice, and the right to speak truth to power. “We reject it. We condemn it. And we will resist it through every lawful and democratic means available to us,” the statement added.
NPP further accused the Presidency of orchestrating the arrest. “Let us be clear and honest with the Ghanaian people. What we are witnessing is not the work of one overzealous prosecutor or one misguided judge. This is a carefully planned political agenda, and the orders are coming from the highest office of the land, the Presidency itself,” Frimpong stated.
