A coalition of political parties, led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has submitted a petition to the judiciary, urging them to intervene in the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
The petition, presented by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, calls on the judiciary to urge President John Dramani Mahama to revoke the suspension.
Afenyo-Markin cautioned judicial officers against being complacent, emphasizing that the suspension of the Chief Justice could have far-reaching implications for the judiciary.
“Touch one, touch all,” he said, urging judicial officers to stand united in defense of the judiciary’s independence.
The petition was received by Acting Judicial Service Secretary Dr. Cyracus Badinye Bapuuroh, who assured that it would be forwarded to the relevant authorities for consideration.
