Ghanaian rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, has shared a harrowing experience of being arrested and detained by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) without any tangible reason.
In 2021, Medikal was arrested by the Ghana Police Service for brandishing a gun in a video posted on social media.
Recalling the incident in an X post, formerly known as Twitter, Medikal recounted how his lawyers’ efforts to communicate with superiors were met with a dismissive “it’s an order from above” response.
Medikal’s ordeal landed him in the Ankafu Maximum Security Prison, an experience he attributes to the NPP’s abuse of power.
His post comes on the heels of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama being declared the winner of the 2024 presidential election.
Medikal expressed a mix of skepticism and optimism towards President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
“I do not trust him, but rather believe in him,” Medikal wrote..
He urged Mahama to effect drastic change, citing the need for a better future for Ghana’s youth, including his friend Sharaf, Mahama’s son.
