New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary hopeful Eugene Boakye Antwi says the party must undertake a complete restructuring of its communications and auxiliary structures if it is to rebuild and improve its electoral fortunes ahead of the 2028 elections.
He said the changes should cover not only the party’s central communications team but also structures such as TESCON, Nasara, the women’s wing and the youth wing.
“We have to restructure all that. Communication, Tescon, Nassara, women, youth. Let’s restructure all that,” he said.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Afternoon Ghana on Tuesday, September 1, Eugene Boakye Antwi said his position was informed by concerns raised by members of the party, including people directly involved in its communications.
He said he had received numerous questions from communicators about the direction of the party, suggesting that dissatisfaction with the current structure extends beyond the grassroots.
According to him, the objective should be to give the various structures clearer and more purposeful roles, both while the NPP is in opposition and when it eventually returns to government.
“But I’ve shown them that I would restructure all that to give them a more purposeful role to play inside the party and when you’re in government too,” he said.
The centre did not hold
Mr Boakye Antwi linked the communications concerns to what he described as a broader failure of the party’s national structures.
He said the problem was not limited to individual communicators but reflected weaknesses at the centre of the party.
“Apart from the concerns being expressed, the inefficiency of the center. The center. The center is not holding enough,” he said.
Asked whether the centre had held at all, he was blunt.
“It wasn’t. It didn’t hold at all. It didn’t hold at all,” he said.
He argued that the failure of the party’s national structures contributed to its poor performance in the 2024 election.
Rebuilding the party’s message
He has also proposed a direct communication channel between the secretariat and constituency and polling station executives, including a call centre where members can raise concerns.
According to him, party members should not have to travel to Accra simply to get their concerns addressed.
He said the new system would allow complaints to be formally recorded, assigned reference numbers and tracked through the resolution process.
The General Secretary hopeful said strengthening communication would be critical to rebuilding trust within the party and preparing it for the 2028 election.
Eugene Boakye Antwi is challenging incumbent General Secretary Justin Kodua for the position at the NPP’s national executive election scheduled for October 3, 2026.
