NPP cracks deepen in Asawase ahead of 2024 elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is facing internal divisions in the Asawase Constituency of the Ashanti Region, which could hinder its chances of winning the seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The party’s 3rd National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Masawud Osman, has acknowledged the cracks and pledged to resolve them to ensure a united front ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The constituency has been a stronghold of the NDC since 1992, and the NPP’s efforts to bridge the gap have been unsuccessful.

Recently, a health walk organized by a presidential staffer, Alhaji Ali Suraj, aimed at revitalizing the party’s base in the constituency, was boycotted by the parliamentary candidate and his sympathizers.

Alhaji Osman, who attended the health walk, expressed concern that the internal divisions could be a stumbling block for the party’s chances of winning the seat.

He assured that he would take the lead in resolving the misunderstandings and uniting the party towards victory.

The health walk, which saw hundreds of party supporters clad in white attire with portraits of the party’s flagbearer, Alhaji Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia, walked through the principal streets of the constituency.

Alhaji Suraj, who is also a campaign team member of Dr. Bawumia, expressed optimism that the people of Asawase would vote massively for the NPP.

The Ashanti Regional Treasurer of the NPP, Hajia Zainab Sallau, highlighted the achievements of the NPP government in the region and entreated the electorates to unite for victory.

The NPP is seeking to break the 8-year cycle of power alternation between the two major parties in the 2024 elections.
