The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has moved swiftly to distance itself from comments made by Kwaku Asante Boateng, the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South, which have sparked controversy across the nation.

In a radio discussion, Boateng referred to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as an “alien and a stranger,” an expression that has been widely criticized as divisive and disrespectful.

In a statement released on behalf of the party, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong condemned Boateng’s remarks, calling them “unfortunate” and inconsistent with the party’s core values. Frimpong emphasized that the NPP remains firmly dedicated to promoting inclusivity, equality, and national unity—principles that are at the heart of the party’s vision for a prosperous Ghana.

The statement further reiterated that the NPP welcomes all Ghanaians who share its commitment to national progress, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or background. “Our membership is based on loyalty to the party’s principles and a shared vision for the country’s future,” said Frimpong. “We stand for a political culture where every citizen’s dignity is respected, and where tolerance and mutual respect are paramount.”
