The Office of the Vice-Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has denied reports that he promised to give everyone an excavator to work in their concession.
According to a statement from the office, Dr. Prempeh made the statement at a community engagement at Bogoso in the Prestea Huni Valley Constituency on Sunday, but it was “distorted” by some media outlets.
“We have however observed that some media outlets are alleging that he said, ‘We will give everyone his excavator to work in his concession to make money to support the economic growth of their communities’,” the statement said.
The office described the reportage as “false” and said a 20-minute full video footage of NAPO’s submission did not contain what was attributed to him.
The statement said NAPO was talking about granting access to people interested in small-scale mining in a “responsible and sustainable manner” in accordance with the laws of Ghana.
“We urge the public to disregard the reportage,” the statement said.
