NPP drags Owusu Bempah to disciplinary committee for disregarding directive against media commentary

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken disciplinary action against its Deputy Director of Communications, Ernest Owusu Bempah, commonly known as Aboa Apapo, for breaching the party’s directives against media commentary.

In a letter dated April 22, 2025, the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, announced that Owusu Bempah has been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for “necessary action.”

According to the letter, the party’s Deputy Communications Officer contravenened the party’s directives by making comments on social media that were deemed to be in contravention of the party’s rules.

The directives, issued to all NPP members, instructed them to cease discussions on matters that create disaffection within the party in the media.

“Mr. Owusu Bempah has made several comments in the social media which are suspected to be in contravention of the directives issued to all NPP members,” the letter stated.

As a result, Owusu Bempah has been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee to face the consequences of his actions.

“Mr. Ernest Owusu Bempah is hereby referred to the National Disciplinary Committee of the Party for the necessary action,” the letter read.

Ernest Owusu Bempah is not the first party member to be referred to the disciplinary committee for violating the party’s directives against media commentary. Former Dome Kwabenya constituency lawmaker Sarah Adwoa Safo was summoned after comments she made during a TV appearance.

Justin Kodua Frimpong said Adwoa Safo’s media engagement violated the party’s directives.

According to him, Adwoa Safo’s comments was a direct contravention of an earlier directive prohibiting members from discussing matters that could create disaffection and unrest within the party.
