A major shift has hit the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) internal campaign landscape as Ofosu Asamoah, former Kade MP and campaign manager for Kwabena Agyepong, has publicly thrown his weight behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The unexpected switch was announced at a campaign engagement over the weekend, where Mr. Asamoah appeared alongside the former Vice President for the first time since redirecting his loyalty.
Explaining his decision, he noted that a careful evaluation of the party’s upcoming presidential contest convinced him that Dr. Bawumia offers the strongest path for the NPP as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
Speaking to delegates, Mr. Asamoah said the change in direction was driven by both strategic considerations and personal conviction.
According to him, although he had previously chosen to back Kwabena Agyepong, the direction of that campaign had prompted him to reconsider his stance.
He told the gathering that joining Dr. Bawumia’s team was “the right move” at this stage of the race, adding that he believes the former Vice President is well-positioned to lead the NPP back to power.
